Watch Lotus Eaters"LOTUS EATERS follows a group of young Londoners as they struggle to find meaning in their lives while masking their discontent with sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll. The story centers on ex-model and aspiring actress Alice (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) as she struggles with her relationship with Charlie (Johnny Flynn), her drug-addicted ex-boyfriend. The fashionable group of friends epitomizes a new modern "lost generation" reminiscent of Ernest Hemmingway and his cohorts. Featuring performances by lead actor Johnny Flynn, "Lotus Eaters" contains an evocative soundtrack comprised of original music from some of London's most notable indie artists. (c). Review For Lotus Eaters
Like its characters, Lotus Eaters is a visual treat-and emotionally vapid. Marley Lynch-Time Out New York Maddeningly shallow-maybe that's the point-but McGuinness does have talent. Chuck Wilson-Village Voice A braying, caricatured ensemble which spouts poor dialogue and drowns out anything more tender or well-observed that the film may wish to say about the elegantly wasted. Dave Calhoun-Time Out Less a succinct narrative than a meandering portrait of several ultra-rich, ultra-empty thirtysomethings who waste away their days with sex, drugs and ennui. Jordan Mintzer-Hollywood Reporter The free spirit-ness of its characters is certainly mirrored in the film's aesthetic playfulness, but the initial glimmer of Fassbinder-esque expression quickly veers toward Xavier Dolan-grade affectation. Diego Costa-Slant Magazine A lazily directed, flabby look at a group of young, too-rich Londoners whose lives are so miserable you'll be tempted to give up your money and move to an ashram or monastery. Harvey S. Karten-Compuserve Lotus Eaters tracks a posse of pointless rich kids around London, but the result can come across as even more aimless than the antics on screen. Fionnuala Halligan-Screen International Fascinating black and white photography cannot make up for the lack of energy in this dreamscape of human misery. Ron Wilkinson-Monsters and Critics
